2nd day: Exploring the city

After a short sleep in our tiny room, where there was no room to open our suitcases even, the day started out on the market in Chinatown. You can get everything here to eat: vegetables, fish and even unique ingredients like frog or snake to prepare.

Right next to the market, you can find a Buddhist shrine, no frogs allowed inside...

Just 3 metro stations further to the east, we arrived in the middle of little India, where numerous stalls were selling flower and "garlands", which people put in their vehicle or home freshly made every day to keep as a symbol of prosperity. The garlands are red yellow and white that symbolises love, peace and purity respectively.

Singapore is 1 degree north of the equator and its climate is classified as tropical rainforest climate. The lowest recorded temperature is 19.4 °C. We experienced well above 30 °C.

Another 20 minutes walk and we arrived in the Arabic street, the third ethnic group in a few hours in the colourful city of Singapore.

Walking towards the financial district, we passed by the Raffles Hotel named after Thomas Stamford Raffles, who arrived here in 1819 and signed a treaty to develop the southern part of Singapore as a British trading post. The hotel is home to Singapore's signature cocktail, the "Singapore Sling" developed in the Hotel's bar by Ngiam Tong Boon in 1915.
From the harbour you can get a full view over the skyscrapers of the financial district and the world famous Marina Bay Sands, which we looked at from a distance yesterday already.

Here came the surprise..... We returned to our tiny Chinatown room, picked up the luggages, took a taxi and asked to drive us to the  "Hotel" in order to spend the next 20 hours there. In the evening we were enjoying the jacuzzi, the rooftop infinity pool and went to the rooftop disco bar.
