2nd day

Today was about skiing. I got up early in the morning to reach the powder snow triangle as the locals call the area of Aspen-Vail-Glennwood Springs. After adjusting the board computer I realised that it was indeed a quite chilly morning.

After an hour drive I arrived in Aspen, which village is known about the fact that Dumb and Dumber crossed the whole country just for a short visit. I might be even dumber, because I even crossed the whole ocean for it.

Surprisingly the village is not that fancy as we saw it in the movie. Except it has its airport for the private jets flying in, filled with Russians and Americans

and that you see some nice cars and multimillion worth villas

and that all the luxury brands have a shop here,

it is an average sleepy American village:)

They say it is one of the best ski regions in the world, because being snow safe all along the season and having a very “light” and “dry” snow. Although the average snow mass per year in this area is around 300 inch i.e. 700cm, today there was 0cm in Aspen itself and a moderate 20inch on the peak at 11500feet (3800m) altitude.

Still it was at least a day with “bluebird sky” as I was told by the guy at the ski rental.

Skiing is quite pricy (107USD for day pass and 5usd for a hot chocolate) here and the quality of the service (slopes/lifts and restaurants) is not competitive with the best ones of Europe. Still it was a nice experience for once.

Tonight I spend the night in a village cold Grand Junction and heading tomorrow to the Arches NP. That far everything is according to the plans:)
