After the crazy party yesterday, we left early the hotel and took a bus direction Bolivia and La Paz. We were looking for full day trip although the distance was only 250kms. Border crossings are slightly more difficult than in the Schengen area.
Already during the 1st hour of the ride we went above 4000m again to cross a mountain pass and arrived at the Bolivian border. Still on the Peruvian side we had to leave the bus together with the lugguages. After getting the exit stamp of Peru we had to walk 200m to Bolivia and get the entry stamp. After that entered back in the bus and continued to Coppacbana at the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca. The above procedure took almost 2 hours.
Copacabana is not to be mixed with the beach in Rio / Brasil. It is a small village just next to the border, where all backpacker hang around, because it is cheap and you can not do anything.
We had to change bus here and wait 2 hours to leave. After a short drive we arrived at the ferry crossing of Lake Titicaca, where we had to leave the bus again because of safety reasons.
Early evening we arrived in La Paz, which is the highest located capitol of the world. With its 4 million inhabitants it is filling valley located between 3000-4200m. Because of the altitude differences, instead of a subway bus system, the people in La Paz use the brand new cable car system from Austria as a mass transport.
