0day
My departure yesterday was already adventurous, since the
train to Schiphol was diverted to Amsterdam.
In that way the trip to the airport took 1.5 hours instead of the 0.5hours.
Starting in the beginning; it was always a dream of mine to
visit Africa. My ideas were either to climb
the Kilimanjaro or to explore the nature and culture of South Africa. Since
nobody wanted me to join for the climb, I decided to travel around in South Africa on
my own. The promotion of Emirates was a good luck, making it possible to spend
an extra day in Dubai.
Preparation was done carefully, since you hear lot of
stories about safety issues and in general travelling alone in the country. I
tried to plan the route of my trip considering those concerns, but still being
challenged to get close to real life.
Yesterday I left in the late afternoon with an A380, the
biggest existing air plane on the world.
Maximum taxi/ramp weight 562,000 kg
Maximum landing
weight 386,000 kg
Length:72.65m
Wingspan 79.75m
Height 24.45m
The surface of the wings is like 10 times the surface of my 2
bedroom apartment and the fuel capacity is an amazing 320000l, which is burned in
15 hours. Still it is the most efficient way to travel over big distances, consuming
only 3l fuel/100km/1 passenger.
The economy class was unfortunately not much different, than
on any other planes. The whole second level was business and first class, where
the poor people do not have access to, so I only saw the stairs leading to heaven. It is a full standing cocktail bar just up there...
I just arrived in Dubai and will
spend the next 24hours here before flying on to Johannesburg.
