6th day

From the Monument valley to the Grand Canyon

Driving from Mexican Hat where we spent the night to the valley, you can recall another movie set.

This time Forrest was not there

I ve been there 9 years ago
We started the morning by driving the Monument Valley Loop, a 23 miles long trail around huge rock formations. To see the video click here

I also had the opportunity to drift and enjoy the car a bit.

 Also could recall some spots I ve been to, some 9 years ago with my sister.

2 hours to the north, there is village Page, which is famous about its slot Canyon, the Antelope Canyon. There are actually two canyons; the upper and the lower, wherein the upper is easier to visit, because of its location.
The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is "Tsé bighánílíní", which means "the place where water runs through rocks.

Colours are changing every minute

When flooding, water can run through the canyon with a speed up to 60kmh and get 9m high.

Survivors
Antelope Canyon was formed by erosion of Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding. Rainwater, especially during monsoon season, runs into the extensive basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Because of the danger of the floods, you can visit the canyon only via a guided tour.
Even that way surprises can happen, like you can see here.....
There are two other sites close to Page;
The so called Horseshoe bend of the Colorado river. Looking down from the plateau the river is 350 m further down...
Colorado river
The other one is the Glenn Canyon dam with its 180m concrete wall.

We will spend the night close to the east entrance of the Grand Canyon south rim tonight.
